Dr. Franz von Lucke Architectural & Landscape Photographer
I have dedicated myself to the art of architectural and landscape photography, capturing the interplay of light, form, and space that defines our built and natural environments. Based in Hamburg, my work is rooted in a appreciation for the beauty of everyday life and the discovery of new perspectives, patterns, and the ever changing light.
My journey to photography began alongside my academic pursuits: I studied political science and anthropology in Hamburg, later earning a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Tübingen in 2018. These disciplines shaped my analytical and conceptual approach, which I now bring to my photography. Since 2024, I have been working full-time as a photographer, merging my intellectual background with my passion for visual storytelling.
For me, photography is a productive dialogue between an idea and reality. It is the process of aligning my own vision – the analytical and the emotional – with the spontaneous, but also the limiting aspects of the material world. A sunbeam breaking through clouds and illuminating a structure, the unexpected geometry revealed in a landscape, or the fleeting interactions of people in urban spaces: these are the moments that inspire my work. As Bruno Latour suggests, images possess their own “agency”—a power to act independently, to evoke emotion, and to communicate meaning. This is what makes photography, as an art form, so compelling.
In my professional practice, I strive to harness this power to reveal the true essence of a building or landscape. My goal is to create images that not only document but also elevate, showcasing your projects with clarity, depth, and artistic integrity.
